Financial planning for Saskatoon business owners and families
Insight Planning serves Saskatoon clients virtually from its Kelowna office. We coordinate tax, investments, retirement and estate decisions for owners of corporations, farm families, incorporated professionals and families with $1M+ to invest, in one plan.
Our clients are successful Canadians whose financial lives have outgrown a single account, product or spreadsheet. We coordinate the moving pieces so the next decision is easier to make.
What shapes financial planning in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan's small business limit is $600,000
Saskatchewan's small business rate is 1%, made permanent in December 2024, on a provincial limit of $600,000, higher than the federal $500,000. The general rate is 12%. The two limits do not line up: income from $500,000 to $600,000 is taxed at 16% combined (15% federal and 1% provincial), so the layers are worth checking with your accountant before the year-end.
A farm corporation has an ownership question first
Saskatoon's economy includes agriculture, potash, uranium and life sciences, according to the regional development authority, and Saskatchewan has its own rules about who may own farmland. Before shares or land move between family members, the structure should be checked with your accountant and lawyer.
The capital gains exemption can reach farm property
The lifetime capital gains exemption is $1,275,000 for 2026. It can apply to qualifying small business shares and to qualifying farm and fishing property, but only when the tests are met at the right time, which is why succession planning starts years before a transfer.
Probate is $7 per $1,000
Saskatchewan's probate fee is $7 per $1,000, or part of $1,000, of the Part 1 assets listed on the statement of property. On $2,000,000 that passes through probate, that is $14,000. Assets that pass by joint ownership or a named beneficiary do not, so how accounts are titled and who is named belongs in the plan.
Investing the money in your Saskatoon corporation
If your Saskatchewan corporation has $1,000,000 or more invested inside it, we build the portfolio for how a corporation is taxed. The federal small business rate is 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income. Passive investment income above $50,000 a year starts to reduce that $500,000 limit, and it is gone at $150,000. We coordinate with your accountant on how that works for your corporation.
One coordinated plan, not five separate conversations
Wealth management in Saskatoon usually means several advisors who each see one part of the picture. At Insight Planning, a Certified Financial Planner leads one plan across tax, investments, retirement and estate, built on the Insight 360° OS, so each decision is made with the others in view.
Your plan stays current through scheduled reviews and a team you know by name, by secure video or in person at our Kelowna office.

Questions Saskatoon clients ask
Does Insight Planning have an office in Saskatoon?
No. Our office is in Kelowna, BC, and Saskatoon clients work with us by secure video. Saskatchewan does not change its clocks, so Saskatoon is one hour ahead of Kelowna in summer and two hours ahead in winter.
Do you work with farm families?
Yes. Farm families often hold land, equipment and a corporation, and plan for the next generation. We coordinate with your accountant and lawyer on succession and on the tax rules that apply to farm property.
Who is a good fit in Saskatoon?
Owners of corporations, farm families, incorporated professionals and families with $1M+ to invest, and people facing a sale, an inheritance or retirement.
Can you work with my Saskatoon accountant and lawyer?
Yes, with your permission. We prepare what your accountant needs from the account and speak to them directly.
How are you paid?
How we are paid is set out in writing before you open an account, in dollars. See our fees page for how we explain it.
How do I start?
