Financial planning for Kelowna business owners and families
Insight Planning's office is at 890 Clement Avenue, Unit 306, in Kelowna. We coordinate tax, investments, retirement and estate decisions for Okanagan business owners, incorporated professionals and families with $1M+ to invest, in one plan, in person or by video.
Our clients are successful Canadians whose financial lives have outgrown a single account, product or spreadsheet. We coordinate the moving pieces so the next decision is easier to make.
What shapes financial planning in Kelowna and the Okanagan
An Okanagan business is often land, a building and an operating company
The region's economy includes agriculture and viticulture, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, tourism and technology, according to Tourism Kelowna and the region's economic development bodies. For owners, that often means land, buildings and an operating company that have to be planned together, and a lifetime capital gains exemption of $1,275,000 for 2026 that can apply to qualifying small business shares and to qualifying farm property.
Moving here changes who taxes you
Many people move to the Okanagan from Alberta, the Lower Mainland and Ontario, with a corporation, a portfolio, or both. Where you live on December 31 decides which province taxes you personally, and a move can change how a corporation's income is divided between provinces. We plan the move before it happens, not at tax time.
British Columbia's corporate rates and the passive income rule
BC's small business rate is 2% and its general rate is 12%, so 11% on the first $500,000 of active business income and 27% above it, with the federal rates. BC follows the federal passive income rule, so investment income above $50,000 a year inside a corporation starts to reduce the limit.
Retirement here is a housing decision too
For many Kelowna households, the home is the largest asset and the decision about when to sell, downsize or stay is as important as the portfolio. We plan retirement income, the home and the estate as one picture.
Investing the money in your Kelowna corporation
If your Okanagan corporation has $1,000,000 or more invested inside it, we build a portfolio for how a corporation is taxed. The federal small business rate is 9% on the first $500,000 of active business income. Passive investment income above $50,000 a year starts to reduce that $500,000 limit, and it is gone at $150,000. We coordinate directly with your accountant, with your permission.
One coordinated plan, not five separate conversations
Wealth management in Kelowna usually means several advisors who each see one part of the picture. At Insight Planning, a Certified Financial Planner leads one plan across tax, investments, retirement and estate, built on the Insight 360° OS, so each decision is made with the others in view.
Your plan stays current through scheduled reviews and a team you know by name, by secure video or in person at our Kelowna office.

Questions Kelowna clients ask
Where is Insight Planning's Kelowna office?
We are at 890 Clement Avenue, Unit 306, Kelowna, BC V1Y 0H8, open Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00 Pacific time.
Can I meet in person?
Yes. In-person meetings take place at our Kelowna office. If you prefer, meetings can be held by secure video, with the same team and the same planning process.
Who is a good fit in the Okanagan?
Owners of corporations, incorporated professionals and families with $1M+ to invest, and people facing a decision that touches everything at once: a sale, an inheritance, a move or retirement.
I am moving to Kelowna from another province. When should I call?
Before you move. Residence on December 31 decides your personal province of tax, and a corporation's arrangements should be reviewed before the move, not after.
How are you paid?
How we are paid is set out in writing before you open an account, in dollars. See our fees page for how we explain it.
How do I start?
Request an introduction. A short first meeting to see if we’re the right fit, for both of us. Three questions, and we reply within two business days.
