Built to work alongside you.
We manage corporate investment capital and coordinate with the accountants and lawyers our clients already trust.
Your relationships and expertise come first.
Your client keeps their accountant. We respect that relationship and will never ask a client to change accountants or lawyers.
Defined responsibilities, deliverables and timing.
What we provide, and when, is set out below: the investment policy statement at onboarding, reporting every quarter, contact when material decisions arise, and a tax reporting package at fiscal year-end.
We complement your work. We don’t compete with it.
We do not replace your role or take over the client relationship. Nothing is paid between us, in either direction.
You advise. We invest. We coordinate early.
You remain responsible for your client’s corporate tax and legal advice.
We manage the corporate investment account and keep you informed when material investment decisions or relevant tax considerations warrant your involvement.
Corporate portfolios are built with Dimensional funds.
With your client’s authorization, we communicate directly rather than requiring you to obtain information through the client.
Our objective is simple: make your work easier without complicating your relationship with the client.
What you receive, and when
-
The Corporate Investment Policy Statement
With your client’s authorization, we provide the written investment strategy, including relevant investment objectives, liquidity requirements and corporate tax considerations.
Material updates are shared when appropriate.
WhenAt onboarding -
Corporate investment reporting
We provide customized investment reporting directly and securely.
Reports include investment performance, transactions, fees, investment income, distributions and available realized gains and losses.
WhenEvery quarter -
Proactive communication
We contact you when an investment decision could have significant corporate tax implications.
Where reasonably practicable, we consult you before proceeding with material tax-sensitive transactions.
Routine portfolio activity does not require accountant approval.
WhenWhen material decisions arise -
Corporate investment tax reporting
We prepare a comprehensive investment tax reporting package to support your year-end work.
Our target is delivery within 30 days of the corporation’s fiscal year-end, provided the necessary information is available.
Where relevant information from fund companies, custodians or other third parties is unavailable, we provide the completed package as soon as reasonably practicable after receiving it.
WhenAt fiscal year-end
All coordination and information sharing require the client’s authorization.
The client to think of
An incorporated business owner or professional with $1 million or more invested or available to invest inside their corporation.
Particularly relevant when:
- Corporate investment income is approaching or exceeding the passive-income threshold.
- Significant corporate investment decisions are ahead.
- Investment costs or the tax efficiency of the existing portfolio deserve closer examination.
The $50,000 passive-income threshold is a relevant consideration, not a prerequisite for becoming a client.
How your client starts
They request an initial assessment
Your client contacts Insight Planning directly and provides preliminary information about their corporate investment situation.
We determine whether we can help
We assess whether the situation warrants further discussion and whether there are potential investment-related inefficiencies worth investigating.
We recommend an appropriate next step
Some clients may proceed directly to corporate investment management.
More complex situations may warrant a separate $5,000 Corporate Diagnostic.
There is no obligation to engage us. With the client’s authorization, we coordinate with you when relevant.
You do not run anything or answer for them.
We help them find who is
If we are not the right fit for your client, we say so early and point them to someone better suited to their situation. Your relationship with them stays exactly as it was.
Investment decisions shouldn’t be disconnected from legal decisions.
When a corporate restructuring, estate freeze, business succession or ownership change could materially affect a client’s investment portfolio, we coordinate with their lawyer.
With the client’s authorization, we provide relevant investment information and address investment-related implications.
You remain responsible for legal advice, documentation and implementation.
We do not replace your role or assume responsibility for the legal work.
